This is a picture of the "dummy plug" attached to the real plug (slightly darker and has wires attached to it).  Remove this dummy plug before you install your CD changer and all will go well! :)

My GTI news and information section...

04-17-00: Wow!  It's been a long time since I updated this page...  Since the last update Blondie is now at 4,900 miles, I have replaced the heavy rubber floor mats with some OEM rubber floor mats and the GreedSpeed grill has been installed.  At 3,300 miles I changed her oil to Mobil 1 synthetic and I added Prolong oil treatment - honestly, I don't know how good those treatments are but it can't hurt.   I have also started working on Vincent, my old 1985 Golf (GTI wannabe) - he has almost 180K miles and is in need of some tightening up in the bottom of the engine - so we are going to plastigauge the rod bearings to see how much wear they have and replace them - if things go well he will be back on the road in a week or so.  BTW, in my previous post I said that the grill install looked a little tough - it was incredibly easy - it took about 30 minutes, and most of that was figuring out how to remove the grill and bumper cover without damaging it.   If you want to see pictures of the new grill, go to the TVW Club page - go to this page and click on TVW - the cars are listed on the left side.

01-16-00: The grill is here - installation looks a little tough.  Looking forward to a sunny day to put it in.  Plan to do a major cleaning/detailing of the car soon and do an oil change - Blondie is fast approaching 3,000 miles.  Have decided to run Mobil 1 synthetic oil 10w30.

12-19-00: Finally an update - ordered a Greedspeed grill for Blondie as part of a group buy on VW Vortex.  Hope I can get in on more of these group buys as they come along - will make tricking out Blondie a little easier on the wallet.  I'm not happy with the New Dimensions version of the heavy duty rubber floor mats, so I'll be buying some actual VW rubber floor mats soon.  Also planning on a K&N upgrade soon as well.

11-31-00: No news for a while - just trying to pay some bills - so all enhancements for Blondie are on hold for a while.  Probably be next spring before I upgrade anything else - looking forward to installing a sub-woofer, getting a set of wheels and tires, and possibly doing some body upgrades.

11-08-00: Installed the CD changer last night - no problems after I discovered that the changer plug has a dummy plug on it - remove that and it's plug'n play.  New Dimensions was great about the floor mats - the mats they gave me were as close as they have for the model I have - offered a refund, but I'm gonna use a knife on them and cut them to fit.

11-04-00: Installed the TT dead pedal - looks great!  WARNING!-> Also, tried to install the heavy duty rubber floor mats, got'em from www.newdimensions.com or www.vwaftermarket.com , but they didn't fit my car - I have e-mailed them about this - but if they don't have a set that fits my car - then I guess I'll have to cut them to fit - you would think that they would be molded to fit for $80 - could've gotten a set a Wal-mart for $20 and cut them to fit.  More news on this as I get it.   Also, got news about the CD changer - just a little longer.

11-01-00: Mike Carlson is an evil, evil man. ;)  - Just kidding Mike!   Thanks to Mike, I now have a list of future modifications for the new car.  He has a great 1995 GTI with tons of mods and more planned - check out Wolfgang.

10-29-00: Finally fueled up - the average fuel mileage  was about 28mpg (27.75).  Not quite as efficient as my old 1.8 Golf, but the new car isn't broken in yet and it runs a hell'ova lot better.

10-28-00: Installed the TT pedals today!  Still waiting on the dead pedal, floor mats and the CD changer...

10-25-00:  Okay - that's it!  I've ordered the CD changer (Thanks Brian!) and I'm done with mods to the car for a while...  Expect pictures of the upgrades as I get them...

10-24-00:  Ordered a TT dead pedal today.  That's the end of the upgrades for while except for a CD changer - still looking...

10-22-00:  Yesterday, I finally decided on a name for my new car.  Her name is, and so...there it is.  I also removed the pictures of the CD changer connector - if anyone knows of a good deal on a CD changer for Mark IV VWs with Monsoon - please e-mail me.

10-19-00:  Ordered some parts for my new car: got a set of TT pedals and some rubber floor mats on the way.  Just gotta find a CD changer now.

10-17-00:  Here is my new car.  I purchased it on 10-16-2000.  It's a 2001 VW GTI with a 1.8 turbo, 5 speed manual, Monsoon stereo, and black leather interior.  It's fast!!!  It handles great!!!  I'm in love!

This, in my opinion, is the best picture of the car - but the background is terrible!
